About Ultrasonics Sound frequencies are measured in Hertz. Most humans hear sounds up to 15,000 Hz (the sonic range). Ultrasonics are sounds over 25,000 Hz and transonics are sounds between sonic and ultrasonic in the 15,000 to 25,000 Hertz range. Some deterrents are only ultrasonic, others use transonic and sonic frequencies. Our products have been developed specifically to help humanely solve the growing number of confrontations modern society has with insects, rodents and mammals. We supply products that operate in sonic, transonic and ultrasonic frequencies. Generally, people with normal hearing can't hear ultrasonic noise but animals can. Many products utilise only ultrasonics (e.g. LP318 Ultrasonic DogChaser and LP228 IonFresher & Pro-PestRepeller fall into this category) to achieve the repelling effects on pests. Your Own Pet These pest repeller units are not harmful to humans, cats, dogs or farm animals, but they will be very uncomfortable to pet hamsters, gerbils and ferrets. Our devices should not be used around your own dog (except for training purposes) or cat as the sounds will be very uncomfortable. On the other hand, most devices are directional and will not cause discomfort if pointed away from your pet (remember that ultrasonic output can bounce off of solid objects too) or used the other side of a solid wall. Practical Tips Repelling any pest, whether an insect, cat or bird is sometimes very easy and sometimes very difficult. For instance, if a rodent has just built a nest, has new-born young, has an excellent source of food and water nearby, or if the weather has recently turned very wet or very cold, it can take time, patience and an ongoing commitment to get them out. Sometimes it takes one device, other times more than one device is necessary. The position and height of the device may also need to be varied. Be like an army commander. Think tactics. Consider the access points where the intrusion occurs and to what extent the pest has an alternative place to go. If necessary, vary the position or settings (if there are any) on the device. Remember that the performances of our products expressed in operational ranges are comparative guides only as true performance will depend each individual environment where the device operates. With dogs, remember that the hearing of an old dog is not as sharp as a young animal. With cats, they are less likely to be scared if there are groups of 3 or more as they find safety in numbers. Finally, ultrasonic sound is easily blocked by solid objects like walls. But solid or hard surfaces reflect and bounce sounds as well Above all, NEVER GIVE UP. PERSISTENCE PAYS!! |
